Jays Set 40-Man Roster for Rule 5 Draft

The Toronto Blue Jays set their 40-man roster for the upcoming Rule 5 draft next month, by making just one addition, and adding catcher Robinzon Diaz.

Diaz batted .306 with three home runs and forty-four runs batted in last season with the Dunedin Blue Jays. The 23-year-old will be the third catcher on the 40-man roster, but is not high on the depth chart for Toronto in terms of their minor league catchers.

Curtis Thigpen, who will begin the year at Triple-A, and is the catcher of the future for Toronto, is more polished than Diaz, and a better player.

The Jays, however, didn't want to risk losing Diaz, and decided to protect him, since Thigpen did not have to be protected yet.
