BMLN: 10/6 Arizona Fall League Update

Kratz Went 0-for-1, but Played At 1B

In Day 2 of the Arizona Fall League Guillermo Quiroz went 2-for-4, while Adam Lind continues his early struggles going 0-for-5 in the evening. We also saw a first this season, when Erik Kratz came in as a defensive replacement – at first base. More details inside!

Adam Lind struck out swinging in his first plate appearance of the night. Facing Jared Weaver in the bottom of the second inning, Lind took a first pitch ball, and then took a called strike, before striking out swinging on his next two swings to end his at bats.

Taylor Buchholz replaced Weaver in the bottom half of the third inning and with a runner on first, Guillermo Quiroz lined the first pitch he saw to left-field to put runners on first and second. Quiroz scored four at bats later, coming home on a force out error. Adam Lind followed that play on a 1-0 fly out to center field.

Quiroz came up to bat again in the bottom of the fourth, this time off Philip Barzilla and grounded into a force out to end the inning. Lind made his third at bat in the bottom of the sixth, off pitcher Brian Sanches, and led off the inning with a ground out to shortstop, on a 1-1 count.

Quiroz led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a ground double to left field, but was stranded at third base and did not score in the inning. In the top of the eighth inning, Erik Kratz came in as a defensive replacement, but for the first baseman Larry Broadway. It was the first time this season that Kratz appeared at first base. He recorded one putout during the eighth inning.

In the bottom half of the eighth inning, with Aaron Williams pitching, Adam Lind grounded into a force out during a 1-1 count and a runner on first. Erik Kratz then stepped to the plate with a runner on first, and reached base safely on a fielding error by the third baseman. Kratz scored the next at bat when Adam Boeve hit a fly ball double to center field. Guillermo Quiroz came up with a runner on second base, but flied out on a 1-1 count to center field.

Kratz went on to record two more putouts in the top half of the ninth inning. Adam Lind made his last at bat in the bottom of the ninth inning and on a 1-1 count grounded into a 4-6-3 double play to end the game.
