The University of Nebraska baseball team played just two games this weekend, as their Saturday game was postponed because of inclement weather. Gordon went 3-9 this weekend with three runs scored, four runs batted in, and two home runs. On February 27, against Rice, he hit a three-run home run in the eight inning to cap a five run inning as Nebraska came back from four runs down.
In seven games this season, Gordon is batting 8-26 (.308) with ten runs scored, two home runs and five runs batted in. He has drawn seven walks whiling striking out five times, and is seven-for-seven on stolen base attempts.
Nebraska travels to Round, Rock Texas this weekend to participate in the Round Rock Baseball Classic. They place Rice on Friday, Texas State on Saturday and USC on Sunday.
Mike Pelfrey – RHP – Wichita State
Mike Pelfrey started on February 24 against Hawaii-Hilo in a game played at Kona, Hawaii. He pitched eight scoreless innings allowing just two hits, while walking four batters and striking out six.
On the season Pelfrey is 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA. In 20 innings, he has allowed nine hits, six walks and eighteen strikeouts. Opponents are batting .143 off the right-hander.
Wichita State remains in Hawaii this week and will play five more games before returning home. They face Louisiana-Lafayette on March 1, Sacramento State on March 2, UC Davis on March 3, Hawaii on March 4, and South Florida on March 5. All games will take place in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Luke Hochevar – RHP – University of Tennessee
Tennessee junior Luke Hochevar was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week Monday following an outstanding performance in the Vols' 1-0 win at UNC Wilmington last Saturday at the 2005 Hughes Brothers Baseball Challenge. He threw a complete game four hitter and struck out six in the process. In three starts this season, Hochevar is 2-1 with a 0.43 ERA. In 21 innings, he has allowed nine hits, four walks and twenty-one strikeouts. Opponents are batting .127 off him.
The University of Tennessee will host Morehead State this weekend.
Jeff Clement – C – USC
Jeff Clement went 2-10 this weekend with two runs scored, two runs batted in and is struggling to find his groove with the bat. In seven games this season, Clement is batting 5-23 (.217) with four RBI.
USC played UC Riverside today, and travel to Round Rock Texas this weekend to participate in the Round Rock Baseball Classic. They will play Texas A&M Friday, Rice on Saturday and Nebraska on Sunday.
John Mayberry – 1B – Stanford University
John Mayberry struggled this weekend, however, his hustle led to a victory on Saturday as he beat out a potential inning ending double play in the bottom of the ninth with one out and the bases loaded. On Friday he went 0-4, but finished on a bright note as he went 2-5 with a run scored on Sunday.
This season Mayberry is batting 19-61 (.311) in fifteen games with three home runs and fifteen RBI. Stanford will host the University of California this weekend.
Tyler Greene – SS – Georgia Tech
Greene had an outstanding week as he went 8- 14 with six runs scored, three runs batted in, three doubles and a triple. On the season Greene is batting 11-28 (.393) with four doubles, two triples and five runs batted in. He has also stole four bases without being caught.
Georgia Tech will play the Atlanta Braves tomorrow in Orlando, Florida before traveling to North Carolina to play Duke.
Ryan Zimmerman – 3B – University of Virginia
Zimmerman went 6-15 this week with four runs scored and five runs batted in. For the season he is batting 16-40 (.400) in eleven games with seventeen runs batted in and ten runs scored.
Virginia travels to Richmond tomorrow to face Richmond and then to Winstom-Salem, North Carolina this weekend to face Wake Forest.
Stephen Head – 1B – Ole Miss
Head went 2-9 this weekend with a home run and two RBI. On the season he is batting 8-28 (.286) with two home runs and seven RBI. Ole Miss has five games this week as they play Northwestern State today and tomorrow, and finish the week off with a three-game weekend series hosting Purdue.
