LaCava Promoted to Assistant General Manager

Posted Oct 17, 2007

The Toronto Blue Jays ended any speculation of Tony LaCava leaving the organization when they promoted to him to Assistant General Manager, Player Personnel.

LaCAVA, 46, joined the Blue Jays organization following the 2002 season and was named Director, Player Development, on July 30, 2003. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native has developed an extensive background in scouting since joining the Anaheim Angels as an Associate Scout in 1989. He has served as Area Scout, National Crosschecker, National Scouting Supervisor and Director, Player Development over the past 19 seasons, working for Anaheim, Atlanta, Montreal, and Cleveland, prior to joining the Blue Jays as an Assistant to the General Manager.

The Pirates talked to LaCava last month regarding their open General Manager position, and the St. Louis Cardinals also had interest in LaCava.

LaCava was previously the Director of Player Personnel, and his elevated position gives him the Assistant General Manager's title.
