Prospect Pulse: Q&A with Tracy Thorpe

InsideTheDome was present for the Fisher Cats media session on Tuesday evening. Scott Britton caught up with Tracy Thorpe and asked the big right-hander why he didn't pitch in any minor league spring training games, his health heading into the season, what pitch he added to his repertoire and much more.

InsideTheDome: You didn't pitch in any minor league spring training games. Were you nursing an injury?

Tracy Thorpe: When I was first sent down to minor league camp, I pulled my quad and I wasn't able to play in any games or participate in drills until the final day of spring training when I threw in a simulated game.

InsideTheDome: Are you healthy to begin the season

Tracy Thorpe: I can pitch on Thursday if I'm needed. I'm close to 100%.

InsideTheDome: Has the coaching staff informed you of your role in the bullpen?

Tracy Thorpe: I think Lee Gronkiewicz and I will be appearing mostly in late game situations. We're not sure who will be the closer, or if we will have a set closer, but I assume we will be used during the late innings.

InsideTheDome: What do you think you need to do this year to make it to the next level?

Tracy Thorpe: I feel I need to go out and be consistent. To me you have to be confident about your pitches to be successful. I have to go out, be a bulldog, and dominate on the mound. If I do that it will put me in great shape to make it to the next level.

InsideTheDome: Did you work on any specific this off-season?

Tracy Thorpe: I didn't work on anything different. I just fine-tuned my pitches. I worked on my sinker a little more and I think it will be a new pitch in my repertoire which will help along with my slider.

InsideTheDome: Do you still consider your fastball your strongest pitch?

Tracy Thorpe: I still think my fastball is my go-to pitch, but I also have confidence in my slider. There's going to be days when your best pitch is not working for you, and you need to have that backup pitch to get outs.
