Yates to Start AFL Championship Game Today

On Saturday at 1:05 PM (MT), 3:05 PM (ET), Kyle Yates will be taking the mound for the Phoenix Desert Dogs in the AFL Championship Game.

Yates has been the best pitcher in the Fall League this year as he leads all pitchers in ERA and strikeouts.

The 23-year-old is 2-0 with a 1.13 ERA over six outings. In 24 innings, he has issued 19 hits, just 6 walks, and has fanned 25 batters.

Yates is excited about the chance to start this big game, but is not going to change anything.

"There isn't anything specifically that I would like to work on," Yates told InsideTheDome. It's nice as a player to finish strong at the end of a season. I just want to be able to execute and give our team a chance to bring home the championship."

Yates has not allowed a run over his last two starts, spanning 10 1/3 innings. Over his last three starts (14 1/3 innings) he has issued just one walk.

The right-hander will head back home after this start and rest his arm for what is expected to be an interesting 2007 campaign at Triple-A Syracuse.
