HWB: Patterson Drives in Run in Blowout

Ryan Patterson had an RBI single Sunday night batting in the three spot during Honolulu's 9-2 victory over West Oahu. The Jays other outfielder, Eric Nielsen, had the day off.

Patterson got his first at bat in the first inning of Jeff Marquez, but grounded out on the first pitch to first baseman Mike Stodolka.

His second at bat came in the fourth inning, and with a runner on second base, Patterson lined an 0-1 pitch to left field for the RBI single. After moving to second on a walk, and to third base on another walk, he scored on a three-run triple by Yoshiyuki Kamei.

Patterson faced Ian Kennedy in the fifth inning and after a lengthy at bat he grounded out to third base. Patterson took the first two pitches for strikes in the at bat, and then fouled off four straight pitches, before grounding out.

Gilbert de la Vara began the top of the seventh inning on the mound. His first batter of the inning was Patterson and on a 1-1 pitch he hit a line shot to the third baseman, who made a fabulous dive, got on his feet, and threw Patterson out by a step.

Patterson led off once again in the top ninth, and facing Jarod Plummer, he flew out to left field.

The Jays outfielder is batting 4-for-14 with a run scored, a double, and one RBI in the Hawaii Winter Baseball League.
