SkyChiefs closer Lee Gronkiewicz picks up win in Gold-Medal game of Olympic Qualifier

Syracuse SkyChiefs closer Lee Gronkiewicz picked up the win as Team USA defeated Cuba, 8-5, on Tuesday in the gold-medal game of the Olympic qualifying tournament. Gronkiewicz (1-0) pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings allowing just one hit and no walks while striking out three Cubans to pick up the win.

Gronkiewicz led the SkyChiefs with 17 saves this season before leaving on August 16th to join Team USA. The 17 saves give him 23 in a Syracuse uniform, which ranks tied for 9th in franchise history with Ron Guidry.
