Dunedin Scores Two in Ninth to Win

Robinzon Diaz's RBI single in the ninth inning gave Dunedin a 9-8 victory over Sarasota on Saturday, and avoided a series sweep.

Dunedin was leading 7-4 heading into the ninth inning, but allowed four runs in the top half of the inning and trailed 8-7, before the walk-off single.

Diaz finished the game 2-for-5 with an RBI. Diaz was hitting just .175 three days ago, but since has gone 5-for-12 to raise his average to .250.

Josh Kreuzer hit his second home run in the first inning, and finished the game 2-for-3 with four runs batted in, and a pair of runs scored. Kreuzer has hit safely in four straight games, and is 6-for-14 over that stretch. He has homered in two of his last three games, and has driven in a run in three consecutive games.

Ron Davenport went 4-for-5 in his first game with Dunedin. He drove in a run, and hit two doubles, while scoring three times. Davenport was transferred from Double-A New Hampshire after beginning the season 0-for-27.

Ryan Patterson and Chris Snavely had a double, and drove in a run apiece. Patterson has been in a small slump the past four games hitting just 2-for-18, and has seen his average dip from .378 to .302.

Snavely has a five-game hit streak going, and is batting .302 in 12 games.

Robert Ray struck out seven batters over six innings, allowing just one earned run (four runs total), on five hits. It was the first time on the year that Ray struck out more than two batters in the game.

Milton Tavarez blew his first save of the season allowing four runs while recording just one out.

Lansing Defeats Beloit

Sean Shoffit extended his hitting streak to ten games, and scored a run once again as he continues to be a sparkplug at the top of the order for the Lugnuts. Lansing defeated Beloit 6-3 Saturday afternoon.

Shoffit went 3-for-5 with a run scored, and a double in the game, to raise his season average to .339. It was the second time in three games that the infielder had three hits in a game. Shoffit has scored at least one run in seven of his last nine games.

Chris Gutierrez is another playing that is tearing the ball for Lansing. Gutierrez went 2-for-5 with a triple, and two-runs scored, to extend his hitting streak to seven games. Gutierrez also has a four-game multi-hit hitting streak, and is hitting 8-for-17 during that stretch.

Joey Metropoulos hit his second home run of the season, driving in two runs.

Chi-Hung Cheng improved to 3-1 on the season, allowing two runs, on seven hits, in five innings, but issued four walks, and struck out three batters. Cheng has struck out 22 batters in 19 1/3 innings, while walking 9 batters.

Po-Hsuan Keng allowed his first run of the season, in his three innings. Paul Phillips struck out two of the three batters he faced and picked up his second save. Recommended Stories
