Houston finally gets his chance at Triple-A

RHP Ryan Houston was sent to Triple-A Syracuse today and RHP Jordan DeJong was activated off the disabled list to take his place on the Fisher Cats roster. Also, former Fisher Cats RHP Shaun Marcum was promoted to the Majors with the Blue Jays, and RHP James Baldwin was released. Down in Lansing Emmanuel Sena and Adrian Martin have been placed on the disabled list, with Luke Hetherington and Joey McLaughlin taking their spots in Lansing.

The 26-year-old Houston was 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 5 relief appearances with the Fisher Cats this season. He had 11 strikeouts and just 2 walks in 6.2 innings pitched. He went 3-2 with 7 saves and a 2.68 ERA in 33 appearances for New Hampshire last season. Houston, a member of Toronto's 40-man roster, has never reached the Triple-A level. He was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the 31st round of the 1998 draft.

The 27-year-old DeJong has been on the roster of the Short-Season A Auburn Doubledays since the beginning of the season. He has not yet pitched in a game this season. He has spent the past two seasons with the Fisher Cats, going 1-4 with a 5.88 ERA and 2 saves last year with New Hampshire. Originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the 18th round of the 2002 draft out of Cal State Fullerton, DeJong is the Fisher Cats all-time leader in pitching appearances with 102.

The 24-year-old Marcum started the year with Triple-A Syracuse and went 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA in 4 relief appearances. He had 13 strikeouts and just 2 walks in 9.0 innings pitched. He began last season with the Fisher Cats, going 7-1 with a 2.53 ERA in 9 starts before moving up to Syracuse. There, he went 6-4 with a 4.95 ERA in 18 starts before making his Major League debut with the Blue Jays September 6 in Baltimore. In 5 games with Toronto last season, Marcum did not allow a run in 5 apperances over 8.0 innings pitched.

Veteran James Baldwin was activated from the DL today and then released. Baldwin appeared in 3 games and was 0-0 with a 3.38 ERA.

Emmanuel Sena and Adrian Martin were placed on the Lugnuts disabled list. RHP Joey McLaughlin and OF Luke Hetherington were transferred from extended spring training and the Lugnuts roster. Recommended Stories
