Phillips Sent to Syracuse, Perkins Claimed

The Toronto Blue Jays have outrighted catcher Jason Phillips to Triple-A Syracuse, and also on Wednesday RHP Vince Perkins was claimed by the Milwaukee Brewers off waivers.

Phillips , 29, appeared in three games for Toronto this season and was 1-5 with two RBI. He was designated for assignment on April 8 when the Jays activated Gregg Zaun from the disabled list.

The 6-1, 220 lb. right-handed hitter was designated for assignment on April 9 with Gregg Zaun being activated from the disabled list. Phillips was signed as a minor league free agent on December 30, 2005 after hitting .238 in 121 games for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2005 with 20 doubles, ten home runs and 55 RBI.

Perkins, 24, appeared in two spring games for the Blue Jays posting an 0-1 record with a 27.00 ERA. The right-hander from Victoria, BC had spent his entire career in the Blue Jays organization after his 18th round selection in the June 2000 First Year Player Draft.

Perkins made one appearance in spring training with the Blue Jays and allowed four runs in 1 1/3 innings. The right-hander was designated for assignment on April 1, to make room for Brian Tallet on the 40-man-roster
