International Update: Chris House Progression

House signing his contract

2006 baseball is just around the corner, however, in Australia baseball has just ended for the year. InsideTheDome has been tracking Chris House since he was signed in January. House just ended his high school senior with a bang, and although he was signed as a catcher, House did not see action behind the plate in the postseason. Find out how House performed, what position he played, and what is in store for this future Jay over the next year.

The bad news is that the Morley Eagles lost in the finals of the State League Championships to Perth by a score of 4-1. The good news is that in five games, Chris House was the most dominating hitter on the field.

House batted .522 in twenty-three at bats as the leadoff hitter for Perth. House scored five runs and hit three doubles.

However, it should be known that House was not behind the plate for those five games, but rather he played second base.

"Luke Hughes (who has signed with the Twins) went over to the World Baseball Classic, so for the second half of the season I played second base and also led off for the team," House said from Australia.

The athletic youngster held his own at second base, committing just one error in nineteen total chances, and turned two solid double plays in the tournament.

So what is up next for Chris House before he begins his journey in professional baseball?

House will head to Queensland, Australia on April 18 to play in the World Qualifiers. The tournament will consist of a five-game series against New Zealand. Then on June 6, House will go to Adelaide, Australia to play in the Australian School Boys Championships. After that he will travel to the Australian Major League Baseball Academy for eight weeks and then they will choose the Australian team from that group. House has one more year of high school left before he travels over to the States to begin his professional career in 2007.

There is a chance House will travel to the States to take part of the Instructional League this fall. Recommended Stories
