The Toronto Blue Jays have assigned coaches Tom Signore, Antonio Caceres and trainer Andrew Muccino to new roles within the organization. The organization has added pitching coach Darold Knowles to the Dunedin Blue Jays and trainer Shawn McDermott to the Auburn Doubledays for the 2006 Minor League season.
Signore,
43, will serve as the pitching coach for the Lansing Lugnuts of the Midwest League (A). He spent last season as pitching coach at Auburn of the New York- Penn League (A). Prior to 2005 he spent eight seasons coaching in the minor league systems of Montreal and Florida.
Caceres,
33, will join the Auburn Doubledays as pitching coach after serving in the same role the last two seasons for the Pulaski Blue Jays of the Appalachian League (A). From 2000-2003 he served as pitching coach for the Blue Jays affiliate in the Dominican Summer League.
Knowles,
64, joins the organization as pitching coach for the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Florida State League (A). He comes to the Blue Jays from the Pittsburgh Pirates organization where he served as pitching coach for the Indianapolis Indians of the International League (AAA) last season. The Brunswick, Missouri native pitched for15 seasons in the majors. He was an all-star with the Washington Senators in 1969. Knowles also holds the World Series record for most games pitched in one series (seven with Oakland in 1973).
Muccino,
31, will serve as trainer at Dunedin in 2006. He has been in the Blue Jays organization for the past three seasons. In 2003, Muccino was trainer for Pulaski then in 2004 he had the same role for the Blue Jays former affiliate, Charleston of the South Atlantic League (A). Last season he was trainer for Lansing.
McDermott,
27, has been promoted to trainer for Auburn. He has been in the Blue Jays organization for the past two seasons. During the 2004 season, he served as an intern in the Blue Jays Minor League offices. Last season, he worked as a trainer in the Blue Jays extended spring training program and served as the assistant trainer for Dunedin during the second half of the Florida State League Season.
