BMLN: A Good Day for the Jays in the AFL

Although the Peoria Saguaros lost once again Thursday in the Arizona Fall League, it was a productive day for the players from the Blue Jays organization. All of the runs for the Saguaros were driven in by players from the Blue Jays and two pitchers allowed just one hit in their outings.

The best player for the Blue Jays in the AFL this season, Ryan Roberts, flied out to center field in his first at bat of the game. Adam Lind, who is trying to find his swing after a 1-for-26 start struck out swinging on three pitches in his first at bat of game during the third inning. In the same inning, Roberts flied out to right field with a runner on second base. The struggles for Lind continued in the fifth, when he grounded out to second on a 2-1 count.

In the sixth inning, Ryan Roberts grounded a first pitch infield single to the shortstop, but would not advance any further as he was forced out at second during the next at bat. With Peoria down 6-0 in the top of the seventh and a man on first base, Bubbie Buzachero was summoned into the game. Buzachero struck out Andy LaRoche on a 2-2 count and got Andre Ethier to ground out to end the inning.

The momentum continued into the bottom half of the inning. Adam Lind came to the playe with runners on first and second and on the first pitch which he saw, he lined a single into left field to drive in a run. One at bat later, with runners on the corners, Ryan Roberts lined a double to left field to score the second and final run of the game.

Buzachero also pitched the eighth inning and allowed a single and struck out a batter before being relieved in the ninth by Steve Andrade, who allowed a ground ball single and a walk in his inning of work.

Roberts finished 2-for-4 with a run batted in and is hitting .302 (13-43) in ten games with eight runs batted in. Lind finished the game 1-for-4 and is hitting just .067 (2-30) in nine games with two runs batted in. Buzachero went 1 2/3 innings and allowed a hit and struck out two batters, as Andrade allowed a hit and a walk in his inning of work. Recommended Stories
