AFL Update: Roberts Leadings Jays Arizona Pac

The Arizona Fall League is two weeks in but the results from the desert as not as pleasant as they could be. The Jays have six players in the AFL this year. Four of them are position players, while the other two are pitchers. Among the four position players are top notched names like Guillermo Quiroz and Adam Lind, as well as Ryan Roberts, who broke through the radar with his 2005 season.

Not all are performing great however. Roberts is the lone player who could boast about his performance so far. Quiroz is coming through and playing up-to-par considering the amount of time he missed this season, and Adam Lind is in a slump he would love to forget. Both pitchers that are representing the Blue Jays are struggling down in the hot desert as we will look at below.

Roberts is hitting .314 (11-35) in eight games so far. The infielder has two doubles out of his eleven hits and one home run. Roberts has driven in seven runs this fall, and has drawn just one walk while striking out seven times.

Quiroz is making up for the missed time he had the first half of the season and is playing well. The Jays catcher is hitting .278 (5-18) in six games with one double. Like Roberts, he has not walked much, seeing just one base-on-ball and striking out four times.

Lind is in a tremendous slump down in Arizona. Facing mostly Double-A and Triple-A pitchers, the left-hander has just one hit in twenty-six at bats in eight games. His lone hit was a double and the outfielder has struck out seven times, while drawing just one walk.

Erik Kratz is also down in Arizona playing, and in eight games he also had one hit, but in just eleven at atbats.

Steven Andrade is one of two pitchers for the Blue Jays and is 0-0 with a 6.43 ERA in four games. The right-hander has noticed seven innings so far and has allowing five hits, and issued five walks, while retiring fourteen batters via the strikeout.

Bubbie Buzachero is the other pitcher for Toronto. He has an 0-1 record with a 7.71 ERA in six games. The right-hander has also logged seven innings and has allowed nine hits, while issuing eight walks and striking out five batters. Buzachero does have a save to his credit this fall.
