10/12 BMLN: Buzachero Picks Up First Save

The best two offensive players in the Arizona Fall League were in action yesterday against the Desert Dogs as the struggling Adam Lind and Erik Kratz took the day off.

Guillermo Quiroz stepped to the plate in the top of the second inning for his first at bat of the game and lined a single to left field on the 3-2 count. Quiroz, however, was stranded at first base as his fellow organizational teammate, Ryan Roberts, struck out swinging on a 2-2 pitch.

With a new pitcher to begin the four inning, Guillermo Quiroz struck out swinging on a 3-2 pitch, but Ryan Roberts followed up with a two out line single to center field. Roberts stole second base on a 2-1 count, but was stranded at second base.

Quiroz got his first hit of the day in the top of the sixth inning when he lined a single to left field on the first pitch he saw to put runners on first and second. However, Ryan Roberts could not drive in a run as he struck out swinging after fouling off four pitches in the at bat, three consecutive.

Both players made their final plate appearance in the top eighth. Quiroz popped out to second base and Roberts grounded out to first base.

Peoria was ahead 7-6 going into the ninth inning, but the Desert Dogs mounted a rally and put runners on first and second with two outs. Bubbie Buzachero was then summoned into the game and struck out Jonathan Schuerholz on a 3-2 count to end the game.

Quiroz finished the game 2-for-4 with a strikeout and Roberts finished the game 1-for-4 with two strikeouts. Bubbie Buzachero picked up his first AFL save.
