Janssen Expected to Pitch Next Week

Posted Jul 20, 2005

Casey Janssen is expected to be activated from the disabled list when he is eligible to come off on Monday. Janssen threw a side session before the Fisher Cats game on Wednesday and then spoke with Inside The Dome over the phone to declare himself ready to go.

“I feel great after throwing my side session today” said the right-hander. “I don’t feel it anymore and I am just ready to get back into action. As soon as I get off the disabled list I will be ready to go.”

The Fisher Cats rotation is currently crowded with six candidates, however, it is expected that Vince Perkins will be moved to the bullpen to make room for Janssen.

“This entire staff in New Hampshire has been tremendous and I will have to wait to see where I fit in this rotation. It is my understanding I will be pitching again within five days.”

Janssen was struck in the right hand by a line drive off the bat of Matt Moses on Saturday as he was making his second start in Double-A.

The 23-year-old began the season with the Lansing Lugnuts going 4-0 with a 1.37 ERA in forty-six innings. On May 9 he received a promotion to Dunedin and went 6-1 with a 2.26 ERA in fifty-nine plus innings. Overall this season he is 11-1 with a 1.89 ERA in 114 innings.
