Late Solo Shot By Peralta The Difference
It would be Toronto who jumped on the board first though against Kevin Millwood, when Alex Rios singled and stole second, followed by a Russ Adams walk and a double steal, putting runners on second and third with two outs. Orlando Hudson capitalized, singling into right, scoring two, giving the Jays an early 2-0 lead.
Cleveland though, evened things out in their half of the second against lefty starter Gustavo Chacin. Ryan Ludwick would draw a walk, then advanced to second on Coco Crisp's single to center, allowing Ben Broussard to bring both men home by just missing a home run off the wall in right-center, resulting in a two-run double knotting the score up at two.
The flood gates would open up, and we're not talking of the run variety. The game was delayed for an hour and fifty-one minutes in the bottom half of the Indians' third with one out. When play resumed, Chacin's day was done, shortened due to the rain, posting a final line of 2 and 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on two hits, striking out one and walking three. Right-hander Pete Walker would relieve Chacin, pitching a brilliant 3 and 2/3 innings of shutout ball.
Jason Frasor would then come in to pitch the seventh and had worked a 2-and-2 count to Jhonny Peralta before leaving one over the heart of the plate which was blasted to deep right-center for a solo shot, giving the tribe a 3-2 lead.
The Indians bullpen would pitch six innings of shutout ball, with Arthur Rhodes picking up the win with a perfect seventh. Bob Wickman would come in for his fifth consecutive save, and eleventh of the season, closing the door of the Blue Jays.
Toronto hopes the weather improves on Sunday as they send ace Roy Halladay to the mound against Indians ace C.C. Sabathia. Halladay holds a 3-0 record against the tribe in six career starts while Sabathia sports a 3-1 record in four career starts against the Jays.
The game on Sunday can be seen on Rogers Sportsnet starting at 1pm EST as well as on The FAN 590AM.
