New Hampshire Weekly Report

The Blue Jays AA club, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, kicked off their inaugural season this past week. We look at each game and note how players of interest faired in our weekly report.

The Fisher Cats started the season on the road with a four game set against the New Britain Rock Cats, the Minnesota Twins' AA affiliate, winning the first three before dropping the final game. This week they travelled to Trenton to face the Thunder, farm club for the Yankees, for a three game set. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate, and after Monday's series opener was rained out, the make-up double header scheduled for Tuesday also had to be postponed. A doubleheader (7 inning games, as per minor league rules) is scheduled for today, followed by four more games against the Thunder at home. The San Francisco affiliated Norwich Navigators then come to Manchester for a three game set next Monday. The Fisher Cats sit second in the Northern Division at 3-1, half a game behind the Binghamton Mets. The expected starters for New Hampshire today are Cameron Reimers and Gustavo Chacin.

April 8th – New Hampshire 3, New Britain 2

Cameron Reimers started for the Fisher Cats, allowing two runs on five hits over five innings to earn the win. Brandon League made his first appearance in his new role as a reliever, and pitched two scoreless innings. Fellow flame-thrower Adam Peterson pitched a three-up three-down ninth to pick up the save.

Rob Cosby was the offensive star of the game, going 3-4 with a home run and 3 RBIs. Aaron Hill had a hit, a walk, and a run scored.

April 9th – New Hampshire 3, New Britain 2

Gustavo Chacin started for the Fisher Cats and pitched four innings, allowing only two runs in the fourth, when he gave up a home run after an error by Hill allowed the leadoff man to reach base. Jordan DeJong picked up the win with two scoreless innings of work, and Peterson picked up his second consecutive save.

The Fisher Cats smacked eleven hits, with Jason Waugh leading the way with three. Only Tyrell Godwin and Aaron Hill failed to get a hit, though Hill reached base twice with walks. Dominic Rich reached base five of six times at the plate, going 2-3 and walking twice.

April 10th – New Hampshire 3, New Britain 1

Dustin McGowan made the start, and turned in a dominating performance. In six innings he faced only two batters more than the minimum eighteen, one which reached base on a third inning error by Rich. He struck out four and walked none, the only blemish a solo home run allowed in the fourth.

Hill had another solid day, going 2-3 with a walk and scoring twice. Michael Snyder had the big hit of the game, a two-run single in the sixth.

April 11th – New Britain 4, New Hampshire 1

Derek Lee got the start for New Hampshire, and pitched five innings allowing two runs on six hits in taking the loss. John Ogiltree gave up another two runs in his two innings of work, while Brandon League pitched a scoreless inning.

The Fisher Cats collected eleven hits in the game, but could only muster one run. Robert Cosby had another big game, going 3-4 and scoring the lone run. Aaron Hill had a hit but struck out twice, including once with the bases loaded to end the 7th.
